Micro Finance
Self Help Groups (SHGs) are a space in which women discuss day-to-day problems. SHGs support rural women's attempts to organize themselves and act as community owned institutions to meet needs for crisis and productive loans, address social issues and bridge priorities with local governments. The capacity to manage financial resources and the confidence acquired through such activities become the basis for participation in numerous village development activities.
SSP helps in linking SHGs with formal sources of credit such as nationalized banks and other financial institutions. Besides, it identifies and develops income generation programmes for women by developing new loan portfolios and business proposals and facilitating a smooth interface with the government as well as with private agencies to secure loans. SSP has made constant efforts to keep the unique features of the SHG - Federation model and widen and deepen the capacity of the women SHG movement in Maharashtra towards scaling up micro finance and livelihoods by strengthening self-governed federations. |
