Uma Shitole, the Environmental Savior on World Environment Day!

“I want to help restore and recharge the groundwater sources in my village, build soak pits and plant saplings to fight climate change.” Uma Shitole belongs to Naigaon village in kallam block of Osmanabad district. She started her journey with Swayam Shikshan Prayog as a village entrepreneur to spread awareness on the clean energy products and services. Marketing of clean energy products boasted her self-confidence and provided her family with better income opportunities. After which she started actively involving in environmental conservation activities. Uma Shitole received Unnati fellowship award in May 2018, which provided her a great platform to support and develop help her village in the best possible way she could. Since then Tree Plantation Drive was conducted by Uma to protect the nature. So far she has Planted 5000 and more trees in Osmanabad district. She helped more than 100 families to fresh water supply, soak-pits, kitchen garden and better toilet facilities. She has helped more than 100 women to live a hygienic lifestyle by promoting the use of eco-friendly sanitary napkins. She gives awareness to protect and keep environment clean. She has established enterprises like topi making, papad, saree centre and supported and inspired many women. She has been recognized for her work by various reputed organizations and media groups and provide her opportunities to continue with the selfless act of conserving the nature.
